Statement in relation to Avian lnfluenza  (Revised 13.11.07)

Shalvey Poultry Ltd. has a comprehensive strategic plan in place with regard to the sourcing and supply of poultry products. An essential part of this plan is contingency arrangements should an event such as the recent outbreak of avian influenza occur.

We currently hold in advance six months of poultry products in stock at any time. All poultry products are sourced from EU Approved Plants located in Mainland Europe and Brazil. Consequently should an event such as avian influenza occur we can alter our supply chain accordingly and therefore ensure consistent supply to our customers. However we understand the seriousness of the recent outbreak particularly with regard to established markets and we will continue to monitor the situation in conjunction with Department of Agriculture, Food Safety Authority of lreland and UK Food Standards Agency.

All of the products produced at Shalvey Poultry are fully cooked products and as stated by the EU Commissioner on decisions on poultry movement, product cooked to a core temperature of 70'C for two minutes will be free from avian influenza and deemed completely safe for human consumption. This is the position from the European Union, U.S.D.A., The lrish Department of Agriculture and Shalvey Poultry Ltd. Shalvey Poultry Ltd do not export or transport any raw poultry meat.
